WISDOM TO KNOW

Pastor Duane Vander Klok, author of  “Solomon Says” reminds us that we need a mentor. In Proverbs, King Solomon offers to be our mentor in thirty different areas including attitude, work, and relationships. You need help and here’s what you need to know.

Let’s start with a question about what you already know. Do you know what you are doing? Do you know what God wants you to do? The number one way God leads all Christians is the Bible. The Bible is inspired by the Holy Spirit and it is God's will for your life. When you are reading the Bible, you are literally reading the thoughts of God. In fact, it is the only book that, when you read it, the author shows up!

A key verse for victorious living is Romans 12:1-2, “By the mercies of God, … present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable to God, which is your reasonable service. And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God.”

When God speaks to you, He speaks to your spirit. That’s where revelation comes. His words are spirit and life. However, even though your spirit is made alive in Christ, your body does not get saved. It is a heathen. It is crazy and it wants to do crazy things. Your body won’t be saved until Jesus comes back. When he comes back, your body will be redeemed.

In this age, we who are disciples, are to present our body as a living sacrifice, holy and acceptable to God which is our spiritual worship (Romans 12:1). If you listen to your body, it will get you into trouble. Submit your body to God. This is worship. This is the way to live in victory.

Transformation is important to becoming a disciple. But, you don’t change by prayer. Changing the way you think is the key. Romans 12:2 tells us how to do Romans 12:1. “Don’t be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind.” We are transformed by our mind being changed. This is how we change the way we live. God will enlighten you as you read Scripture and the Word of God will affect your thinking. Read and meditate and then pray and declare God's Word as truth over your life. This is how we find the will of God.

Joshua 1:8 says “Meditate on it (the Word) day and night so you can do all that’s written in it.” Don’t allow your conscience to be seared so that you cannot discern what the Spirit is saying. Talk Bible. Think Bible. Do Bible. The deceitfulness of sin will get you to the point where you believe what you’re doing is right. Press into God’s Word and be transformed. To be a disciple, the Bible is God's will for you.

God also leads you through desire. Psalm 37:4 promises, “Delight yourself in Lord and He will give you the desires of your heart.” This is not for cars and travel and houses. God places desire in us for His Kingdom purposes. Acts 7:23 shows what happened to Moses, “It came into his heart to visit his brethren.” God placed a desire in his heart that led to his destiny. Philippians 2:13 affirms this, “for it is God who works in you both to will and to do for His good pleasure.” God is at work in you, inspiring you to do what pleases Him and to work for His purposes.

In Mexico, my wife and I moved from Guadalajara to a mountain village and then back again two years later. God was at work in us, directing us according to His will. Likewise, God is at work in you. Delight in the Lord and He will give you the desires of your heart. It is the grace of God that causes you to love what you’re doing. He enables you to do it. He gives you the ability to do and to enjoy what you do. Then when it is time to move, He will take that grace away. It will be time for your next chapter.  What is God inspiring you to do today? Grace enables. When grace is lifted, this directs you to the next thing.

In Acts 16: 6-10, we see the Spirit working in the disciples to lead them to Macedonia. What keeps you from doing what God wants you to do? Most Christians assume they have a red light and they wait for God to show them what to do. But look at this passage carefully. The apostles sought to go to Asia, then tried to go to Bithynia. They assumed a green light to go. The only call my wife and I had to go to Guadalajara, was Mark 16:15, “go into all the world”. We went and God directed. The apostles did not wait for God to show them something supernatural. They tried Asia and then Bithynia. But the Spirit gave them a red light. Assume you have a green light in whatever you want to do. If it is not right, God will give you a red light and redirect you. Colossians 3:15 exhorts “Let the peace of God rule in your hearts.” God’s peace will rule. It is the umpire. The peace of God cannot be counterfeited. If you do something where God is giving you a red light, you will not have the peace of God. If you are making a decision, seek God and watch for Him to give you peace. If you’re doing something to bless people and serve the Kingdom, assume you have a green light. Don’t wait and do nothing. Move. Activated faith is like riding a bicycle. Start pedaling and then you can steer. Don’t pedal and you will fall over. Start moving and God will get you to where He wants you to be, a place of fruitfulness and purpose.

Have you drifted from God? Come home and get right with God. Do you have assurance that you have everlasting life? You can know that you are forgiven and right with God, that you are part of His family and His Kingdom. Romans 10:13 promises, “Whosoever (this will work for anyone) calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.”

Pray, “Oh God, I believe Jesus died on the cross. I believe His blood paid for my sins. I believe He rose again, victorious over death, sin, and the devil. I give Him my life. I hold nothing back. I receive Him as my King, my Savior, and my God. I will live for Him everyday. My past is gone. I’m a part of Your Kingdom today and forever.”

God has a goal for you to grow and become like Christ. Get a Bible, or the Bible app, and read the New Testament every day. Pray and talk to God everyday. Get in a good, strong, local church like Motor City Church. Get water baptized as soon as you can.
