In life, we are in the midst of a spiritual battle, facing darkness and trials that can overwhelm us. Just as football teams prepare extensively for championship games, we too must prepare ourselves spiritually for life's challenges.
How do we overcome darkness in our lives? When facing darkness - whether it's illness, anxiety, depression, financial struggles, or addiction - we must invite God into our situation. Just as we need light in order to see in physical darkness, we need God's light to guide us through spiritual darkness.
The Bible gives numerous accounts of God's intervention when invited. For example:
God is the waymaker and miracle worker. Invite God into your darkness. When God comes in, darkness has to flee.
What does it mean to be part of God's team? Being part of God's team means recognizing God as our head coach and following the Holy Spirit as our play caller (the guy in our headset, telling us how to navigate each situation). He can see things we can’t! As a member of God’s team, we are playing a unique position using God-given gifts and our diversity makes us strong. If you don’t feel you are part of the team, it may mean you need to get off the sidelines and suit up.
You are God’s workmanship. As in any masterpiece, there is a purpose and intentionality to the thought behind it and the design and completion of it. The Creator knows what He’s done and why He’s done it and He has a purpose for you! You are crafted for good works so others will glorify God. Your life points others to Jesus but fear will drive you away from good works. Stop waiting for permission. Go shine with His glory. He has said yes. Why are you saying no?
How do you train for spiritual victory? Just as athletes undergo strict training for competition, you will be at your best if you prepare yourself spiritually. This includes studying God's Word (the playbook). Maintain regular prayer communication with your Coach which is part of developing the most important relationship of your life that will see you through all the situations of life and will position you for your purpose in this life. We trust God's game plan and look to Him for guidance and direction.
What makes our victory in Christ different? Unlike a championship victory that fades with time, our victory in Christ is eternal. We are more than conquerors through Christ and the outcome is already determined. Nothing can separate us from God's love.
This week, take these practical steps to strengthen your spiritual game:
Are you sitting on the sidelines? It’s time to get in the game! As you begin to engage and spend time in God’s word and in prayer, you will see God light your way, overcoming darkness in your life. You will begin to trust Him increasingly and be prepared for the victory He has for you. Remember, you're not just playing for yourself - you're part of a greater team with an eternal purpose. Get in the game and play for the ultimate victory that comes through Christ.
