CREATING YOUR OWN ECONOMY
WEEK 3

God has established a divine economic system that operates independently of the world's economy. Even when markets fluctuate and businesses struggle, God's kingdom economy never experiences a recession.

Remember the biblical purposes for prosperity include:

  • Provision for daily needs
  • Enabling generosity to help others
  • Kingdom expansion
  • Creating influence and legacy for future generations

True biblical prosperity focuses on distribution rather than accumulation. It is about being a conduit of God’s resources to bless others.

Key principles of God's economy include, recognizing God as your source and then establishing a "storehouse" through saving and commitment to consistently add to your savings. The storehouse principle includes living below your means and staying debt-free so you can save and give, seeking wisdom from God and godly counsel about where to grow your financial resources, and being generous from your storehouse.

As we look to establish biblical economic principles in our lives, we in effect partner with God in the world rather than seeking prosperity apart from Him. We can’t ignore these principles that unlock wealth according to scripture if we want biblical prosperity. Tithing is at the ground floor, the bronze level if you will. Tithe means 10%. When we tithe, we give 10% of our income back to God through our local church. God promises to bless the 90% that you keep and you will find that what He does with the 90% far surpasses what you could have done with 100%. Tithing is not just a donation, but a declaration of trust in God as your provider.

Tithing predates the Old Testament law. We see Abraham give a tithe to Melchizedek, King of Peace, long before Levitical law was established. Jesus talked about and affirmed tithing in the New Testament when He spoke to leaders about another issue they were neglecting. He told them they should address this issue but at the same time, not neglect the tithe. The promise attached to tithing is that God will open the windows of heaven to bless you. This in turn positions you for greater responsibility and increase. You are blessed to be a blessing.

Tithing will transform your mindset. Your trust is in God as you give Him 10% of your income. It will liberate you from a mindset of holding on to what you’ve earned, to one of knowing that God is going to “bless the rest”, the 90% that you still have. It is an act of obedience and obedience will open more doors than hustle ever could. When God is in charge of your finances, you will take on an abundant mindset. Putting God first in this way carries the promise that He will take care of all of your needs. As a tither, you will function in kingdom economy rather than world economy, and move from natural provision to supernatural provision. Your next level is always hidden in your faithfulness in the last level. As you are faithful in little, God will entrust you with much. God knows that if He gets wealth to you, He can get wealth and generosity through you.

If you've never tithed before, commit to trying it for at least 90 days. Start with the basic 10% and watch how God proves faithful to His promises. Remember - the Word works for those who work the Word.
