For those who need to know when He’s coming, here it is in verse 10, “But the day of the Lord will come as unexpectedly as a thief.” You’re not going to get to know that answer. Only God knows. However, we do know the signs for when Jesus is coming back and the end of this age. We know people will be distracted with life, following their own appetites and inclinations. Take this opportunity to ask yourself, “How much of this world am I focused on and how focused on heavenly things am I?” What I know is, you are living in your last days. This life is really just a mist or a vapor. We are just passing through.
Matthew 24 says in the end times, people are going to forget God. There is proof of a significant decline of Bible-based believers between living generations. Those who are currently leading our country are estimated at 35% Bible-based believers. If America looks like what it looks like now with 35% Bible-based believers leading it, what do you think it’s going to look like when the young generation, estimated at 4% believers, begins to lead. People are going to forget God. “Sin will be rampant everywhere, and the love of many will grow cold” (Matthew 24:12 NLT). In these days, Peter teaches us that people will not be ready for Jesus’ return.
All you need to know is you are in your last days. Stay awake, get to work and make your life count because you do not know what day the Lord is coming back. “The end of the world is coming soon. Therefore, be earnest and disciplined in your prayers” (1 Peter 4:7 NLT). Another version says "be clear minded and self controlled so that you can pray." When you pray the Bible says you are seated in heavenly places. You will begin to see things in the Spirit. That is where you need to live. Think on the eternal. Your life should reflect this focus. Get in the Bible and let the word of God speak to you. Your conduct should show you belong to Christ. Wear this life like a loose garment. You are a citizen of heaven. Cast off the sin the weighs you down. Get the junk out of your heart. Then, go bless people. Nothing else you see is going to make it to heaven except people. “God has given each of you a gift from his great variety of spiritual gifts. Use them well to serve one another.” Make a difference.
I believe we are living in the best generation ever. Testimonies from the world of Islam are so encouraging with millions coming to Christ. China is showing a statistic of 10% claiming they are believing Christians. That’s 140 million people! Let’s make the most of it. We want to give all we can, serve all we can, do all we can because we are in our last days. Someday we will enter into our rest, but while we’re here, let’s do everything we can to make a difference in someone’s life.
There is one last thing. Seek the Lord while He may be found near because God’s spirit will not always strive with you. Don’t go another second without calling on His name and surrendering your life to Him. God’s will is to pardon you today. God’s grace is here for you right now. Pray, “God I need a pardon. I need your grace. I’ve been carrying my own sin and my own shame and I need to be free. I’m so grateful that you love me. Jesus, take over my life and be the Lord of my life. Forgive me of my sin. I want to live my life for you and I receive what you have done for me today.”
