Harness Your Thoughts

Our previous message for this series, “Heaven on Earth”, was about getting a clear vision, and vision blockers that get in the way of us seeing clearly what God has for us. Many of these vision blockers happen in the mind. Most people allow all kinds of negative thoughts to enter their minds, and those thoughts eventually rule and destroy, because they are not controlled by God‘s truth. In the very first message of this series, I talked about the Word of God being the will of God and the truth of God. Jesus said, “I am the way, the truth…” God sent truth through Jesus.

We need to learn to harness or bridle our thoughts. I use terms like “harness” and “bridle” because they refer to that which controls or restrains, used for guidance. It is important to learn to control and restrain the thoughts which try to enter and hurt you. The truth of God is the only thing you must allow to dominate and guide your mind and your life.

Thoughts can pass through your mind, but you choose whether to entertain or to act on them. If the thought is negative and destructive, it will lead you to failure instead of success. A mind left to its own devices will entertain all kinds of thoughts and wander aimlessly. But, a mind harnessed with the truth has tremendous power for good.

Proverbs 19:25 (NLT) says “Lazy people sleep soundly, but idleness leaves them hungry.” The word “idle” in this verse means to move or wander aimlessly. We’ve all heard an idle mind is the devil’s playground because it is open to receiving false information which is ultimately harmful. An idle mind is not engaged; it is unbridled and unproductive. The word “hungry” means to go without that which is essential for health, productivity, and even life itself. Your brain must be fed with good thoughts and ideas in order to produce good results, and a brain that is hungry can’t produce much at all.

In order for us to fulfill our divine design and experience heaven on earth, God gave everyone a single purpose in life, to be everything that God created us to be. God gave you a brain through which His purpose in you could be fulfilled, but it is up to you to protect and nourish that brain properly. Truth must be accepted and lies must be rejected. Truth subjects your mind to God’s plan for your life. It establishes you in hope and defeats discouragement which limits your progress. “This hope is a strong and trustworthy anchor for our souls” (Hebrews 6:19 NLT).

You won’t be fulfilled until you’re walking in that plan and vision God has for you. Harness your thinking with the Word of God, His ideas, His wisdom, His hope, and His plan for your life. When you build your marriage, your business, your finances, your hope on God’s Word, you will find a sure foundation.

If you are trusting in how you feel, how things look, what you have or don’t have, or just things which motivate your feelings, then you will fail. But if you are trusting in what God says about your situation, you will succeed. Keep out wrong thoughts by the Word. God will reveal His plans and purpose for you if you let Him. There are more than 7000 promises in the Bible. He has big plans for you that will astound you. This is why you can’t be conformed to this world, but you must be transformed in your mind by God’s Word instead. Your mind needs to be reconditioned by God’s thoughts so you can see the possible instead of the impossible.

Don’t allow yourself to be conditioned by man to sickness, to failure, to insurmountable problems or to lack. I am not saying life will be perfect, but life can be better, and when you think of the good, acceptable, and perfect will of God, your whole life will be transformed by the same goodness and perfection. Your mind will be renewed to bring forth the will of God in your life, “Not my will, but your will be done on earth as it is in heaven.”

So here’s your responsibility. Push back the gates of hell which have prevailed against your mind, and choose the perfect will of God, the perfect thoughts of God, the truth of God that can be found in His Word. God‘s truth prevails over sickness, disease, discouragement, inferiority, doubts, failure. The truth in the Word of God is your instrument, and it says that you have the maximum potential of seeing your dreams come true, of reaching your highest potential and goals, because God can do for you far above what you ever even ask or think (Ephesians 3:20).

Pray right now if you are feeling that battle in your mind, and choose right now to harness your thoughts and start making God’s perfect choices for your life. The truth of God is the only thing you should allow to dominate and guide your life. Through this series I want your mind to be reconditioned by God’s thoughts so that you can see the possible instead of the impossible. When you do, your whole life will be transformed.
